After Femi Gbajabiamila, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, tendered his resignation, his seat has been officially declared vacant by the current Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas.

The declaration came in response to Gbajabiamila’s letter of resignation, which was presented during the plenary session in Abuja on Wednesday as a personal explanation.

Upon receiving and reading the resignation letter to the members, Abbas stated, “Today, we have declared the seat of Surulere Lagos Constituency vacant due to Gbajabiamila’s resignation.”

Gbajabiamila explained in his resignation letter, addressed to the Speaker, that he would assume a new role as the Chief of Staff (CoS) to President Bola Tinubu. As a result, he would no longer retain his position as a member of the 10th House of Representatives.

It is worth noting that Gbajabiamila had been appointed by the President to serve as his Chief of Staff prior to his resignation.

Expressing his appreciation, Gbajabiamila extended gratitude to the House and the people of his federal constituency for the honor of serving them. He acknowledged that his appointment by the President was a great privilege and vowed to continue serving with dedication.
