A significant number of A-list celebrities have interests outside of their career. Many follow various sports, and some have become high-profile supporters of soccer clubs, baseball franchises, and NFL teams. A handful have even invested in sports clubs to claim ownership.
Others prefer to follow their teams from afar but will often be seen at a game whenever their busy schedule allows. Among the list of celebrity sports fans are several musical artists who regularly track their favorite NFL franchises.
Taylor Swift: Kansas City Chiefs
Some might argue that Taylor Swift isn’t a genuine fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. If her boyfriend, Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce, were to move to another team, she would likely take her allegiance with her, but for now, she is a loyal supporter of the Kansas City franchise.
When she’s not touring or recording, Swift can be seen at many Kansas City games, and her high profile means that the cameras will frequently be trained on her movements and expressions. Perhaps her most memorable moment came at a Chiefs vs Patriots game when Taylor Swift’s hilarious reaction to a Travis Kelce injury went viral on social media.
Usher: Atlanta Falcons
Fans can follow their favorite franchise team in several different ways. If they can’t attend a game in person, they can pick up some extensive live broadcasts across the season. Others may support their side by getting involved in the many NFL spreads across the different sportsbooks.
In the case of Usher, the ‘King of R&B’ has a genuine loyalty to the Atlanta Falcons. He is known to follow top Atlanta franchises across all sports, but the Falcons are his first love. Usher’s devotion to the team was first evidenced when he attended the Super Bowl game in 2017. Sadly, the tie ended in defeat as the Falcons went down to the New England Patriots.
Usher later performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2024, and Atlanta’s social media accounts across many different sporting franchises fully supported him.
James Hetfield: Las Vegas Raiders
Many artists claim allegiance to the Las Vegas Raiders, and it could be argued that this is the best-supported franchise among the musicians’ fraternity. Perhaps the venue attracts the top performers after the former LA and Oakland teams relocated to Vegas in 2019. A glamorous location tends to attract the most prominent celebrities.
Some of the Raiders’ celebrity fans may have recently joined the Vegas bandwagon, but James Hetfield has followed the team for decades. The leader of Metallica is known to have been upset by the team’s most recent relocation and even joined a campaign to get them to stay in Oakland.
Other top musicians, past and present, have followed the Raiders’ fortunes, including Fred Durst, Axl Rose, Kerry King, and Dave Mustaine.
Ozzy Osbourne: Dallas Cowboys
While few can claim that the late, great Ozzy Osbourne was a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, we know he had a significant affiliation with the area. The city was the spiritual home of Ozzfest, a hugely popular event that showcased the best of his talents.
Osbourne first toured the area with Black Sabbath in the 1970s and returned regularly, both with the band and as a solo artist.
As far as the team is concerned, Ozzy will forever be connected with the franchise. As the Cowboys began practicing before the 2025 NFL season, they paid their tribute, with Osbourne’s music blaring out over the loudspeakers.
Lars Ulrich: San Francisco 49ers
Along with James Hetfield, most Metallica members, both past and present, are fans of the Las Vegas Raiders. As a follower of the San Francisco 49ers, drummer Lars Ulrich is the exception.
A long-time resident of the Bay Region, Ulrich supports the wider San Francisco area. His duties with the band mean that he isn’t a prominent presence at 49ers games, but he has frequently professed his love for the franchise.
Like Las Vegas, San Francisco is a big draw for celebrities, and many artists set up home here. Other famous musicians known to have an allegiance to the 49ers are E-40, Tyler Rich, Huey Lewis, Harry Shum Jr., Bella Thorne, Saweetie, and Tamera Mowry-Housley.
Musicians follow their NFL teams for many different reasons. Some were born in the state where the franchises are based, while others are drawn to their club after watching some of the greatest NFL stars of all time.
In the case of Taylor Swift, there are personal reasons, and that support may be transient. Whatever has inspired, it’s true that each of these artists has added a touch of glamor to the team’s established fan base.
