Prominent human rights activist Femi Falana has strongly criticized the allocation of N110 billion as palliative to the National Assembly, deeming it illegal and contemptuous.

Falana called for an immediate reversal of these measures, asserting that they flagrantly violated relevant provisions of the Nigerian Constitution. The allocation consisted of N70 billion distributed among newly elected members of the National Assembly, with an additional N40 billion designated for the purchase of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and bulletproof cars for officials and members.

Falana condemned this allocation, accusing the National Assembly of callousness and insensitivity toward Nigeria’s economic hardships. He emphasized that the allocation contravened Section 70 of the Constitution, which outlines the appropriate remuneration and allowances for National Assembly members. In his statement titled “Palliative of N110 billion for National Assembly members is illegal and contemptuous,” Falana expressed his dismay at the breach of constitutional provisions and the disparity between the allocated funds and the dire economic conditions faced by the majority of Nigerians.
